REVIEWING: H&M COMPACT POWDER

In my previous post I asked you whether you'd like me to review any of my latest purchases since most of them were beauty products. Some of you answered you'd like me to review the powder from H&M because most didn't know the brand even sold make-up. Well, here it is. The highly-requested (slight exaggeration) review!

I've been using my Sephora Kabuki Brush to apply the powder, though, to be honest, I think it isn't the "right one" for powder. If you go to the ELF Cosmetics webpage, you can find a brush for every single part of your face. It's quite interesting, actually. (I like going there just to browse but they have amazing prices, so check it out!)

What first caught my eye regarding this powder was the extremely light shade it has. Now, if you've been a reader of this blog before this post, you know I'm quite (quite!) fair and I find it incredibly hard to buy certain beauty products (such as foundation or powder). Trust me, photos don't do justice to my paleness, even though I barely edit them.

In the pictures above you can see my skin is not terrible, obviously, but I do get the odd blemish and I have quite a bit of redness that needs to be masked on a daily basis. In here I was wearing my Sephora Foundation in R20, a smudge of concealer under each eye and also covering the redness, plus the H&M Compact Powder.

The first day I put on this powder I actually thought I was having an allergic reaction but I had already felt some itching the day before (when I hadn't used the powder yet), so the powder couldn't possibly be the reason why my skin was irritated. After lightly splashing some water on my skin, the reaction was gone and I've been using the powder since then and nothing happened, so I think this is just my skin adapting to the changes (I didn't really wear much make-up until very recently).

I have to say, I'm impressed with H&M beauty products so far. I actually own a blush by them too and I really want their bronzer because it blends really well with my skin. All in all, I'd say the best thing about this compact powder is exactly the fact that it blends perfectly with my skin tone and doesn't look standoffish. I'm quite glad this was the first powder I bought as it was incredibly cheap (€4,95) and works well with me, but I will probably buy a powder by a brand that focuses more on beauty, rather than fashion, in the future.

If you like this review and want more, do tell me. I'll probably review the H&M eyeshadow and Clarins' Exfoliant Cream too (mainly because I'm in love with both of these products), but if you'd like me to talk about my experience with anything else, I'm more than happy to do it.

Don't forget to...

  4. Trully lovely pics Joana, you look beautiful in them!

Also, I really admire your willingness to survive on your own and not rely on anyone. I'd advise perhaps working for a magazine/PR firm cause I think you'd be able to learn so much plus they'd probably pay better than smaller independent companies. You're smart to save up! Proud of you! xx

  14. Trust me! You need to do more beauty reviews :) Ah always love a light blushy shade to be in the bag for light facial touch-ups. This looks good as! I'm currently using a creamier textured powder from MAC on some days, or for most days it's just some make-up base with a slightly tanned colour haha
Hope you had a lovely day darl :) xoxo

  15. Very good review, I'm going to check out this powder. I have a very fair skin myself, so I understand what you mean! Luckily the sun got me a little tan so that I'm not that pale anymore. And don't say you hate summer! :O You should live in Belgium, anything hotter than 20°C feels like a vacation!

  17. oh! I see I see... smart plan, I like it, but don't worry Joana, seriously with your talent and success with your blog, I believe you'd move up really fast. Trust me you'd be at the magazine sooner than you know it! London's a place where things happen really fast for you just so as you put in some effort and passion-

  52. I am extremely fair as well - but have found that glo minerals has the best product for my skin (The right kind of fairness + my skin dont react to it :) I do however always have this very same H&M powder laying around for when my Glo´s are used up and im too broke to get a new one right away - haha! I think this H&M one is ok for a day or two - but not something you should use on a everyday basis.... (HOWEVER H&M products are way better that for instance Max Factor for some reason)

  53. Great review, I'll keep a look out of more H&M beauty products in the future :) xx
